Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen

We begin our 6 days desert tour from Tangier with a morning pickup from the agreed location. For travelers arriving by ferry or plane, we confirm the exact terminal and arrival time before arranging the journey. Tangier’s city port and Tanger Med are different pickup locations, so these details are important when preparing your itinerary. Arriving the previous day offers the most flexibility. A later arrival on Day 1 reduces the time available in Chefchaouen. This program focuses on the journey south rather than a full Tangier city tour. Additional Tangier sightseeing can be arranged before departure.

Traveling toward the Rif Mountains

We leave Tangier and travel toward Chefchaouen, with practical breaks along the route. As we approach the town, its mountain setting becomes a defining feature of the landscape. On arrival, we check into our accommodation or leave our luggage before exploring, depending on room availability.

An Afternoon in Chefchaouen

We discover Chefchaouen’s medina, walking through blue-painted lanes, small squares, and quieter streets. The town offers opportunities for photography and relaxed exploration. We allow time to appreciate the surroundings, enjoy a refreshment stop, and become familiar with the medina. The lanes include slopes and steps, so comfortable footwear is useful. We respect residents’ privacy and ask permission before photographing people. We spend our first night in Chefchaouen.

Day 2: Chefchaouen – Fes

A Flexible Morning in Chefchaouen

After breakfast, we enjoy additional time in Chefchaouen before departure. This morning provides an opportunity to explore streets not visited the previous afternoon or take a quieter walk through the medina. The timing depends on the agreed schedule and how much sightseeing was possible on Day 1.

Journey toward Fes

We leave Chefchaouen and travel toward Fes, with a lunch break and practical stops along the way. We keep the route focused rather than adding lengthy detours. This allows time to settle into our accommodation after arrival.

Arrival and Overnight in Fes

For riads inside pedestrian sections of the medina, we confirm the nearest accessible vehicle drop-off point and the remaining arrival arrangements. The evening remains flexible. Travelers may relax at their accommodation or take a short walk nearby before the following day’s guided exploration. We spend the first of two nights in Fes.

Day 3: Guided Exploration of Fes

Discovering the Historic Medina

After breakfast, we arrange a guided introduction to Fes, focusing on its historic streets, traditional architecture, and craft districts. The walking route connects neighborhood markets, workshops, and selected landmarks. Our guide provides context for the places we visit and their role in everyday city life. The visit involves narrow lanes, uneven surfaces, and considerable walking. We adapt the pace and selected stops to your interests and mobility requirements.

Architecture and Traditional Crafts

Our itinerary may include a historic madrasa and streets associated with traditional trades, subject to opening arrangements. We appreciate carved wood, plaster decoration, tilework, and courtyard design. A tannery viewpoint may be included if desired, with purchases remaining optional. At religious buildings with restricted entry, we appreciate permitted exterior views and the surrounding streets.

Free Time in Fes

After the main guided visit, the remaining time can be used for relaxation or independent exploration. We spend our second night in Fes. Preparing a small overnight bag this evening makes the following day’s desert arrival easier.

Day 4: Fes – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Early Departure through the Mountains

We leave Fes early and travel toward the Middle Atlas Mountains. This is one of the longest driving days of the tour. A short stop in Ifrane may be included before continuing through mountain and woodland scenery. Where access and timing permit, we stop near cedar woodland. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed; if animals are present, we observe them without feeding or approaching them.

Midelt and the Ziz Valley

We continue toward Midelt, with lunch planned according to our progress. Farther south, the Ziz Valley introduces palm groves and cultivated land beneath dry, rocky slopes. A viewpoint stop may be included where suitable. The changing scenery reveals the transition from mountain landscapes to the desert region. We then continue through the Erfoud area toward Merzouga.

Camel Excursion in Erg Chebbi

On arrival, we prepare for the arranged camel excursion near Merzouga and confirm luggage handling. The excursion offers a slower introduction to the Erg Chebbi dunes, with time to appreciate their curved ridgelines and changing shadows. When arrival time and conditions permit, we schedule the excursion around late-afternoon light. Sunset timing cannot be guaranteed after the long drive. Travelers who prefer not to ride a camel can discuss an alternative vehicle transfer before booking.

Dinner and Overnight at a Desert Camp

At camp, we settle into our tents and enjoy dinner. Some properties offer music in a communal gathering area. Clear skies may also provide opportunities for stargazing, depending on cloud cover, moonlight, and nearby lighting. We confirm the tent category, bathroom facilities, bedding, and included meals before booking.

Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Morning in the Desert

Travelers who wish to rise early can enjoy the morning light around camp before breakfast. After the arranged departure from camp, we begin our journey west. This itinerary includes a desert overnight rather than a full day exploring Merzouga. Travelers interested in a local 4×4 excursion or several desert activities should consider adding another day.

Journey toward Tinghir

We travel toward Tinghir and the Todra Valley, passing open terrain and settlements along the route. Lunch is planned according to our progress. Approaching Tinghir, palm groves and cultivated areas contrast with the surrounding dry hills.

Walking in Todra Gorge

At Todra Gorge, steep rock walls rise above the valley floor. We stop for a short walk in an accessible section, allowing time to appreciate the cliffs and take photographs. The visit provides a welcome opportunity to stretch after the drive. The standard program includes sightseeing rather than an extended hike. Longer walking routes or climbing activities require separate arrangements.

Overnight in the Dades Valley Area

We continue toward the Dades Valley region, where we spend our final overnight stay. Depending on arrival time and our accommodation’s location, a nearby viewpoint or short walk may be included before we settle in. Dinner is provided according to the selected package.

Day 6: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Traveling through Southern Morocco

After breakfast, we leave the Dades region and travel through the landscapes around the Valley of Roses and Skoura. Villages, cultivated areas, and palm groves form the backdrop to this stage. The scenery changes with the season, and roses are not in bloom throughout the year. We continue through Ouarzazate, keeping additional stops selective because the day also includes Aït Ben Haddou and the mountain crossing.

Exploring Aït Ben Haddou

At Aït Ben Haddou, we explore the fortified settlement and its traditional earthen architecture. Passages lead between houses, towers, and defensive walls. Higher sections offer views across the settlement and surrounding landscape. The visit involves uneven paths and steps. Comfortable shoes are useful, and a shorter walking route can be discussed for travelers who prefer to avoid steeper sections. Lunch is planned along the way, depending on the timing of our visit.

Crossing the High Atlas Mountains

We continue toward Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, following the road via Tizi n’Tichka. Mountain valleys and hillside settlements provide the scenery for the final driving stage. We include suitable breaks when road conditions and time permit. Travelers who experience motion sickness should prepare for the winding sections before departure.

Arrival in Marrakech

We arrive in Marrakech in the evening and finish at the agreed drop-off point. The precise arrival time depends on traffic, weather, and stop durations. We recommend spending the night in Marrakech rather than arranging a tight onward connection. Accommodation and a guided city visit in Marrakech can be arranged separately.
