Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

Journey toward Tinghir and Todra Gorge

After breakfast, we leave the Dades region and travel toward Tinghir. Depending on our accommodation’s location, a nearby viewpoint may be included before we continue east. Approaching the Todra Valley, palm groves and traditional settlements contrast with the rocky terrain around them. We then reach Todra Gorge, where steep cliffs rise above the valley floor. We stop for a short walk through an accessible section, allowing time to appreciate the scale of the rock walls and take photographs. At camp, we settle into our tents before dinner. The evening offers time to relax and appreciate the quieter surroundings after two days on the road. Some camps organize music in a communal gathering area. The exact program varies by property and is confirmed with the selected accommodation. On clear nights, we can spend time outdoors observing the sky. Stargazing conditions depend on cloud cover, moonlight, and nearby lighting. We specify tent category, bathroom facilities, bedding, and included meals before booking so that the overnight experience matches your preferences.

Day 3: Explore Merzouga – Khamlia – Desert Landscapes

A Slower Morning in the Desert

Travelers who wish to rise early can enjoy the morning light around the camp before breakfast. Soft shadows and cooler air provide a different perspective on the desert. With another day in the Merzouga region, we have time to explore beyond the camel excursion. After the arranged departure from camp, we begin the local activities agreed for your itinerary. This additional day is the main difference between our four-day route and a shorter Marrakech-to-Fes journey.

Discovering the Landscapes around Erg Chebbi

A local 4×4 excursion around the Merzouga region can introduce the rocky plains, smaller settlements, and open landscapes surrounding the dunes. We confirm the vehicle, route, duration, and included stops in your quotation. The excursion follows suitable local tracks, with adjustments made for weather, access, and ground conditions. Beyond the sand, the wider region reveals a varied desert environment. Dry plains and dark rocky areas contrast with the dunes, offering different opportunities for photography.

Visiting Khamlia

A visit to Khamlia may be included to discover the village’s musical traditions. Where a performance is arranged, we allow time to listen and learn about its local context. We confirm whether the visit and any performance contribution are included in the package or payable separately. Other community visits are considered only where hosts welcome them. We respect residents’ privacy and ask permission before taking photographs.

Optional Activities and Time to Relax

Depending on the agreed schedule, the afternoon may include free time or optional activities such as quad biking, buggy driving, or sandboarding. These activities require separate confirmation. Motorized excursions generally involve an additional charge, while sandboarding availability depends on the accommodation or activity provider. Travelers who prefer a quieter afternoon can relax at the accommodation or enjoy the nearby scenery.

Overnight in the Merzouga Area

For our third night, we stay at a hotel or riad in the Merzouga area, as specified in the proposed itinerary. This provides a different setting after the camp overnight and a practical base for the next morning’s departure. A second camp night can be discussed if preferred, with the transfer arrangements and departure schedule adjusted accordingly.

Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes

Early Departure toward the Ziz Valley

After breakfast, we begin the journey north toward Fes. This is a long driving day, so we leave early and plan practical breaks along the route. We travel through the Errachidia region and Ziz Valley, where palm groves contrast with the dry slopes and rocky terrain around them. Where access and timing permit, we stop at a viewpoint to appreciate the valley’s cultivated areas and settlements.

Lunch Stop toward Midelt

We continue toward Midelt, passing through changing mountain and plateau scenery. A lunch break is planned according to our progress. This stop provides time to rest before the afternoon drive through the Middle Atlas region.

Middle Atlas Scenery and Ifrane

The journey continues through the Middle Atlas, where woodland and higher ground provide a marked contrast with the desert. Depending on our route and available time, we may stop near cedar woodland. Wildlife sightings are possible in parts of the region but cannot be guaranteed. If animals are present, we observe them from a respectful distance without feeding them. We then continue through Ifrane, where a short stop may be included before the final drive to Fes.

Arrival in Fes

We arrive in Fes in the evening and finish at the agreed drop-off point. The exact arrival time depends on traffic, weather, and stop durations. For accommodation inside the medina, vehicle access may end at a nearby gate. We clarify this arrangement in advance so that the final stage of your arrival is straightforward.
