Day 1: Arrival in Tangier

Welcome to Northern Morocco

We begin our 12 days tour from Tangier with an arrival transfer arranged around your flight or ferry schedule. We confirm the exact arrival terminal before organizing the pickup. Tangier’s city port and Tanger Med are different locations, so accurate arrival details help us prepare the appropriate transfer. After meeting, we travel to your accommodation and allow time to settle in.

A First Introduction to Tangier

Depending on arrival time, we may arrange a short walk around the medina and kasbah area or leave the afternoon free. Travelers arriving later can relax after their journey, with any selected sightseeing discussed for the following morning. We avoid promising a full city visit on an arrival day. We spend our first night in Tangier.

Day 2: Tangier – Chefchaouen

Departure toward the Rif Mountains

After breakfast, we begin the journey toward Chefchaouen. A short Tangier visit may be included before departure if it fits the agreed schedule. More extensive sightseeing requires additional time and should be arranged in advance. The drive introduces the landscapes of northern Morocco, with practical breaks along the way.

Exploring Chefchaouen’s Medina

After arrival, we check into our accommodation or leave our luggage before exploring, depending on room availability. We walk through Chefchaouen’s blue-painted lanes, small squares, and quieter streets. The mountain setting and changing views make the town particularly appealing for photography. We allow time for a refreshment stop and relaxed exploration. The streets include slopes and steps, so comfortable footwear is useful. We spend the night in Chefchaouen.

Day 3: Chefchaouen – Fes

A Flexible Morning in Chefchaouen

After breakfast, we enjoy additional time in Chefchaouen. This morning provides an opportunity to explore streets not visited the previous afternoon or enjoy a quieter walk through the medina. We respect residents’ privacy and ask permission before photographing people.

Traveling to Fes

We then leave Chefchaouen and travel toward Fes, with lunch and practical breaks planned along the route. We keep the journey focused rather than adding lengthy detours. This allows time to settle into our accommodation after arrival. For riads inside pedestrian sections of the medina, we confirm the nearest accessible vehicle drop-off point and the remaining arrival arrangements. We spend the first of two nights in Fes.

Day 4: Guided Exploration of Fes

Discovering the Historic Medina

After breakfast, we arrange a guided introduction to Fes, focusing on its historic streets, traditional architecture, and craft districts. Our walking route connects neighborhood markets, workshops, and selected landmarks. The guide provides context for the places we visit and their role in everyday city life. The visit involves narrow lanes, uneven surfaces, and considerable walking. We adapt the pace and selected stops to your interests and mobility requirements.

Architecture and Traditional Craftsmanship

The itinerary may include a historic madrasa and streets associated with traditional trades, subject to opening arrangements. We appreciate carved wood, plaster decoration, tilework, and courtyard design. A tannery viewpoint may be included if desired, with purchases remaining optional. At religious buildings with restricted entry, we appreciate permitted exterior views and surrounding streets. The remaining afternoon can be used for relaxation or independent exploration before our second night in Fes.

Day 5: Fes – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Early Departure through the Mountains

We leave Fes early and travel toward the Middle Atlas Mountains. This is one of the longest driving days of the tour. A short stop in Ifrane may be included before continuing through mountain and woodland scenery. Where access and timing permit, we stop near cedar woodland. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed; if animals are present, we observe them without feeding or approaching them.

Midelt and the Ziz Valley

We continue toward Midelt, with lunch planned according to our progress. Farther south, the Ziz Valley introduces palm groves and cultivated land beneath dry, rocky slopes. A viewpoint stop may be included where suitable. We then continue through the Erfoud region toward Merzouga, where the dunes appear beyond the plains.

Camel Excursion in Erg Chebbi

On arrival, we prepare for the arranged camel excursion near Merzouga and confirm luggage handling. The excursion offers a slower introduction to the dunes, allowing us to appreciate their curved ridgelines and changing shadows. When arrival time and conditions permit, we schedule it around late-afternoon light. Sunset timing cannot be guaranteed after the long drive. Travelers who prefer not to ride a camel can discuss an alternative vehicle transfer before booking.

Desert Camp Overnight

At camp, we settle into our tents and enjoy dinner. Some properties offer music in a communal gathering area. Clear skies may provide opportunities for stargazing, depending on cloud cover, moonlight, and nearby lighting. We confirm the tent category, bathroom facilities, bedding, and included meals before booking.

Day 6: Explore Merzouga and the Surrounding Desert

Morning around the Dunes

Travelers who wish to rise early can enjoy the morning light around camp before breakfast. After the arranged departure from camp, we begin the local experiences specified in your itinerary. This additional day gives us time to discover the Merzouga region beyond the overnight stay.

A Local 4×4 Excursion

A prearranged 4×4 excursion around Merzouga can introduce rocky plains, small settlements, and open desert landscapes surrounding Erg Chebbi. We confirm the vehicle, duration, route, and included visits before departure. Weather, access, and ground conditions may require adjustments. Any visits involving local households take place only where hosts welcome guests. We respect their privacy and ask permission before photography.

Khamlia and Optional Activities

A visit to Khamlia may be included to discover the village’s musical traditions. Where a performance is arranged, we clarify whether the contribution is included or payable separately. The afternoon can include relaxation or optional activities such as quad biking, buggy driving, or sandboarding. These require separate confirmation and may involve additional charges. We spend the night at a hotel or riad in the Merzouga area. A second camp overnight can be discussed as an alternative.

Day 7: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Journey toward Tinghir

After breakfast, we leave Merzouga and travel west toward Tinghir and the Todra Valley. The drive passes through open terrain and settlements, with lunch planned along the route. Approaching Tinghir, palm groves and cultivated areas contrast with the surrounding dry hills.

Walking in Todra Gorge

At Todra Gorge, steep rock walls rise above the valley floor. We stop for a short walk through an accessible section, allowing time to appreciate the cliffs and take photographs. Longer hikes or climbing activities require additional time and separate arrangements.

Overnight in the Dades Valley Area

We continue toward the Dades Valley region, where we spend the night. Depending on arrival time and our accommodation’s location, a nearby viewpoint or short walk may be included before we settle in. Dinner is provided according to the selected package.

Day 8: Dades Valley – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Ouarzazate

Morning in the Dades Region

After breakfast, we allow time for a selected valley stop before continuing west. The overnight stay in Ouarzazate gives us more flexibility for photography and cultural visits than a direct drive to Marrakech.

Valley of Roses and Skoura

We travel through the landscapes around Kelaat M’Gouna and the Valley of Roses. The scenery changes with the season, and roses are not in bloom throughout the year. Continuing to Skoura, we discover palm groves, cultivated areas, and traditional earthen buildings. A visit to Amridil Kasbah can be included by prior arrangement, with admission and guiding details confirmed beforehand.

Arrival in Ouarzazate

We reach Ouarzazate and settle into our accommodation. Depending on timing and your interests, an optional cinema studio visit or sightseeing around the Taourirt Kasbah area may be arranged. We spend the night in Ouarzazate.

Day 9: Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Exploring Aït Ben Haddou

After breakfast, we travel to Aït Ben Haddou, a fortified settlement known for its earthen houses, towers, and defensive walls. We explore on foot, following passages between traditional buildings. Higher sections offer views across the settlement and its surroundings. Paths include uneven surfaces and steps. Comfortable footwear is useful, and a shorter walking route can be discussed if needed.

Crossing the High Atlas Mountains

We continue toward Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, following the road via Tizi n’Tichka. Mountain valleys and hillside settlements create a changing backdrop. We include lunch and suitable breaks according to our progress and road conditions. We arrive in Marrakech and check into our accommodation for three nights.

Day 10: Guided Discovery of Marrakech

Historic Monuments and Medina Streets

After breakfast, we arrange a guided introduction to Marrakech. The route may include Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Madrasa, or the Saadian Tombs, according to your interests and opening arrangements. We confirm the selected visits and admission costs in advance. We also explore the surroundings of the Koutoubia Mosque, appreciating its exterior and its place in the city skyline.

Souks and Jemaa el-Fnaa

We continue through sections of the Marrakech souks, where shops and workshops display textiles, ceramics, leather goods, and metalwork. Shopping remains optional. Our route also introduces the surroundings of Jemaa el-Fnaa. The afternoon can remain free for relaxation or further independent exploration.

Day 11: Free Day in Marrakech or Optional Excursion

Our final full day gives you flexibility after the road journey. You may spend time at your accommodation, revisit the medina, or arrange an additional experience. Options can include a cooking class, a garden visit, or a hammam appointment, subject to availability and your preferences. A private excursion outside Marrakech can also be discussed in advance. Any additional transport, tickets, or activity charges are confirmed separately. We spend our final night in Marrakech.

Day 12: Marrakech and Departure

The final day is arranged around your departure schedule. Travelers leaving later may enjoy a relaxed breakfast or a short walk before the transfer specified in the booking. This itinerary finishes in Marrakech. If your onward journey begins elsewhere, we discuss the necessary transfer separately before confirming the program.
