Day 1: Errachidia – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga

We begin our 4 day Merzouga desert tour from Errachidia to Marrakech with a pickup from the airport, your accommodation, or another agreed location. Before confirming the program, we review your arrival time. A morning or early-afternoon start allows selected stops along the route. An evening arrival makes Day 1 primarily a transfer to your accommodation. By scheduling the main desert excursion for the following day, we avoid making your camel ride dependent on reaching Merzouga before sunset on arrival day.

Discovering the Ziz Valley

For daytime departures, we travel through the Ziz Valley, where palm groves and cultivated land contrast with dry slopes and rocky terrain. Where access and timing permit, we stop at a viewpoint to appreciate the valley’s settlements and agricultural landscape. The scenery introduces the oasis environment of southeastern Morocco. We allow time for photographs and a short break before continuing toward Erfoud.

Continuing through Erfoud

Our route passes through the Erfoud region, with its open landscapes and nearby oasis settlements. A refreshment stop or an optional visit related to local fossil craftsmanship can be discussed in advance. Shopping remains optional, and we keep any visit proportionate to your interests and arrival schedule. As we continue toward Merzouga, the Erg Chebbi dunes appear beyond the plains.

Overnight in the Merzouga Area

We arrive at our hotel or riad and allow time to settle in. If daylight remains, you may enjoy nearby views or a short walk in the surroundings. Travelers arriving late can rest, with the main exploration planned for the next morning. We spend our first night in the Merzouga area, with dinner provided according to the selected package.

Day 2: Merzouga Exploration – Khamlia – Camel Excursion – Desert Camp

After breakfast, we begin the local experiences specified in your itinerary. A prearranged 4×4 excursion around Merzouga can introduce rocky plains, small settlements, and open desert landscapes beyond the dunes. The wider region reveals a varied environment. Sand gives way to exposed stone and broad plains, offering different perspectives for photography and exploration. We confirm the vehicle, route, duration, and included stops before departure. Weather, access, and ground conditions may require adjustments.

Discovering Khamlia’s Musical Traditions

A visit to Khamlia may form part of the morning’s program. Where a musical performance is arranged, we allow time to listen and appreciate its local context. We clarify whether the visit and any contribution are included in the quotation or payable separately. Other visits involving local households take place only where hosts welcome guests. We respect residents’ privacy and ask permission before taking photographs.

Lunch and Optional Desert Activities

We plan a lunch break before the afternoon’s desert arrangements. Depending on the agreed schedule, there may be time to relax or join an optional activity. Quad biking, buggy driving, and sandboarding can be discussed before the tour, with availability, duration, and charges confirmed separately. We keep enough time for the camel excursion and camp arrival rather than filling the afternoon with too many activities.

Camel Excursion in the Erg Chebbi Dunes

Later, we prepare for our camel excursion near Merzouga. Moving across the sand offers a slower way to appreciate the dunes, their curved ridgelines, and the shadows that develop as the light changes. When conditions permit, we schedule the excursion around late afternoon. The exact timing depends on the season, weather, and selected camp arrangements. Sunset views cannot be guaranteed. Travelers who prefer not to ride a camel can discuss an alternative vehicle transfer before booking. We also confirm how larger luggage will be handled so that you can carry only what you need.

Dinner and Overnight at a Desert Camp

At camp, we settle into our tents and enjoy dinner. The evening offers time to relax after the day’s activities. Some camps organize music in a communal gathering area, while clear skies may provide opportunities for stargazing. We confirm tent category, bedding, bathroom facilities, and included meals before booking. Private bathroom facilities can be requested where available.

Day 3: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Morning in the Desert

Travelers who wish to rise early can enjoy the morning light around camp before breakfast. Soft shadows and cooler air give the surroundings a different appearance from the previous afternoon. After breakfast, we leave camp using the transfer arrangements confirmed in your booking. We then begin our journey west toward the valleys of southern Morocco.

Traveling toward Tinghir

The drive toward Tinghir and the Todra Valley passes through open terrain and settlements. We include practical breaks and plan lunch according to our progress. Approaching Tinghir, palm groves and cultivated areas contrast with the surrounding dry hills. Where timing permits, we may pause at a suitable viewpoint before continuing into the gorge.

Walking in Todra Gorge

At Todra Gorge, steep rock walls rise above the valley floor. We stop for a short walk through an accessible section, allowing time to appreciate the cliffs and take photographs. This visit provides a welcome opportunity to stretch after the drive. Our standard program includes sightseeing rather than an extended hike. Longer walking routes or climbing activities require additional time and separate arrangements.

Overnight in the Dades Valley Area

We continue toward the Dades Valley region, where we spend our third night. Depending on arrival time and our accommodation’s location, a nearby viewpoint or short walk may be included before we settle in. Dinner is provided according to the selected package.

Day 4: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Traveling through the Southern Valleys

After breakfast, we begin the final stage of our Errachidia to Marrakech desert tour. We travel through the landscapes around the Valley of Roses and Skoura, passing villages, cultivated areas, and palm groves. The scenery changes with the season, and roses are not in bloom throughout the year. We appreciate the wider landscape while keeping enough time for the day’s principal sightseeing stop.

Passing through Ouarzazate

We continue through Ouarzazate, a city associated with historic kasbahs and film production. A brief stop may fit the schedule. Interior visits to cinema studios or monuments require additional time and should be agreed beforehand. For this itinerary, we generally prioritize Aït Ben Haddou and the High Atlas crossing rather than adding several lengthy visits.

Exploring Aït Ben Haddou

At Aït Ben Haddou, we explore the fortified settlement and its traditional earthen architecture. Passages lead between houses, towers, and defensive walls. Higher sections offer views across the settlement and surrounding landscape. The visit involves uneven paths and steps. Comfortable footwear is useful, and a shorter walking route can be discussed for travelers who prefer to avoid steeper sections. Lunch is planned along the way, depending on the timing of our visit.

Crossing the High Atlas Mountains

We continue toward Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, following the road via Tizi n’Tichka. Mountain valleys and hillside settlements provide the scenery for the final driving stage. We include suitable breaks when road conditions and time permit. Travelers who experience motion sickness should prepare for the winding sections before departure.

Arrival in Marrakech

We arrive in Marrakech in the evening and finish at the agreed drop-off point. For accommodation inside pedestrian streets, we confirm the nearest accessible vehicle stop and the remaining arrival arrangements. The precise arrival time depends on traffic, weather, road conditions, and stop durations. We recommend keeping the evening flexible and avoiding a tight onward connection immediately after the tour.
