Starting in Errachidia, we travel south toward Merzouga before continuing west through the Dades region. The final day takes us through Ouarzazate and across the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech.
This proposed itinerary starts in Errachidia and finishes in Marrakech. It includes one night at a desert camp and one night in the Dades Valley area. A morning or early-afternoon start on Day 1 gives us the best opportunity to enjoy the route and reach Merzouga for the planned desert excursion.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Errachidia – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert
Pickup in Errachidia
We begin our 3 days desert Marrakech tour from Errachidia with a pickup from the airport, your accommodation, or another agreed location.
Before confirming the itinerary, we review your arrival time. A daytime start allows selected stops along the route and a more comfortable arrival in Merzouga.
If your flight reaches Errachidia late in the evening, the standard afternoon camel excursion will not fit the schedule. We can discuss an additional arrival night or revised camp and activity arrangements before booking.
Exploring the Ziz Valley Landscape
We travel through the Ziz Valley, where palm groves and cultivated land contrast with dry slopes and rocky terrain.
Where access and timing permit, we stop at a viewpoint to appreciate the valley’s settlements and agricultural landscape. The scenery provides an introduction to the oasis environment of southeastern Morocco.
We allow time for photographs and a short break before continuing toward Erfoud.
Continuing through Erfoud
Our route passes through the Erfoud region, with its open landscapes and nearby oasis settlements.
A refreshment stop or a short visit related to local fossil craftsmanship can be discussed in advance. We keep any additional visit proportionate to your interests and the time available before the desert excursion.
As we continue toward Merzouga, the Erg Chebbi dunes appear beyond the surrounding plains.
Camel Excursion in Merzouga
On arrival, we prepare for the arranged camel excursion near Merzouga and confirm luggage handling.
Moving across the sand offers a slower way to appreciate the dunes, their curved ridgelines, and the shadows that develop as the light changes. When arrival time and conditions permit, we schedule the excursion around late afternoon.
The precise timing depends on the season, weather, and selected camp arrangements. Sunset views cannot be guaranteed.
Travelers who prefer not to ride a camel can discuss an alternative vehicle transfer before booking.
Dinner and Overnight at a Desert Camp
At camp, we settle into our tents and enjoy dinner.
The evening provides time to relax after the journey. Some camps offer music in a communal gathering area, while clear skies may provide opportunities for stargazing.
We confirm tent category, bedding, bathroom facilities, and included meals before booking. Travelers seeking private bathroom facilities can request an appropriate accommodation category where available.
Day 2: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Early Morning in the Desert
Travelers who wish to rise early can enjoy the morning light around camp before breakfast.
Soft shadows and cooler air give the surroundings a different appearance from the previous afternoon. After breakfast, we leave camp using the transfer arrangements confirmed in your booking.
This itinerary includes a desert overnight rather than a full day exploring Merzouga. Travelers interested in a longer local excursion or several desert activities should consider adding another day.
Journey toward Tinghir
We leave the Merzouga region and travel west toward Tinghir and the Todra Valley.
The drive passes through open terrain and settlements, revealing landscapes beyond the dunes. We include practical breaks and plan lunch according to our progress.
As we approach Tinghir, palm groves and cultivated areas contrast with the surrounding dry hills.
Walking in Todra Gorge
At Todra Gorge, steep rock walls rise above the valley floor.
We stop for a short walk through an accessible section, allowing time to appreciate the cliffs and take photographs. This visit provides a welcome opportunity to stretch after the drive.
Our standard program includes sightseeing rather than an extended hike. Longer walking routes or climbing activities require additional time and separate arrangements.
Continuing to the Dades Valley
After visiting the gorge, we continue toward the Dades Valley region.
Depending on arrival time and the location of our accommodation, we may include a nearby viewpoint or a short walk. The region combines rocky slopes, traditional settlements, and cultivated stretches.
We settle into our hotel or guesthouse for the second night, with dinner provided according to the selected package.
Day 3: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Traveling through the Southern Valleys
After breakfast, we begin the final stage of our Errachidia to Marrakech desert tour.
We travel through the landscapes around the Valley of Roses and Skoura, passing villages, cultivated areas, and palm groves.
The scenery changes with the season, and roses are not in bloom throughout the year. We appreciate the wider landscape while keeping enough time for the day’s principal sightseeing stop.
Passing through Ouarzazate
We continue through Ouarzazate, a city associated with historic kasbahs and film production.
A brief stop may fit the schedule. Interior visits to cinema studios or monuments require additional time and should be agreed beforehand.
For this three-day route, we generally prioritize Aït Ben Haddou and the High Atlas crossing rather than adding several lengthy visits.
Exploring Aït Ben Haddou
At Aït Ben Haddou, we stop to explore the fortified settlement and its traditional earthen architecture.
Passages lead between houses, towers, and defensive walls. Higher sections offer views across the settlement and surrounding landscape.
The visit involves uneven paths and steps. Comfortable footwear is useful, and a shorter walking route can be discussed for travelers who prefer to avoid steeper sections.
Lunch is planned along the way, depending on the timing of our visit.
Crossing the High Atlas Mountains
We continue toward Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, following the road via Tizi n’Tichka.
Mountain valleys and hillside settlements provide the scenery for the final driving stage. We include suitable breaks when road conditions and time permit.
Travelers who experience motion sickness should prepare for the winding sections before departure.
Arrival in Marrakech
We arrive in Marrakech in the evening and finish at the agreed drop-off point.
For accommodation inside pedestrian streets, we confirm the nearest accessible vehicle stop and the remaining arrival arrangements.
The precise arrival time depends on traffic, weather, road conditions, and stop durations. We recommend keeping the evening flexible and avoiding a tight flight or train connection immediately after the tour.
