Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat – Fes

We begin our 5 days Morocco itinerary from Casablanca with a morning pickup from the agreed location. If you are arriving by air, we recommend reaching Casablanca the previous day. A late arrival on Day 1 would reduce the time available for sightseeing and may require adjusting the route. Depending on the agreed departure time, we may include a brief stop around the Hassan II Mosque, appreciating its oceanfront setting and exterior architecture from permitted areas. An interior visit requires advance coordination around the applicable visitor schedule and ticket arrangements. Including it may mean shortening our sightseeing in Rabat.

Discovering Rabat

We continue to Rabat, where we explore selected landmarks rather than attempting a complete city tour. Possible stops include the Hassan Tower area, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas, subject to access and the day’s schedule. These visits introduce different aspects of Morocco’s capital, from monumental architecture to historic lanes and coastal views. We allow time for walking and photographs before continuing inland.

Arrival in Fes

After a lunch break along the way, we continue toward Fes. We arrive later in the day and settle into our accommodation for a two-night stay. For riads inside pedestrian sections of the medina, we confirm the nearest accessible vehicle drop-off point and the remaining arrival arrangements. The evening remains free for rest before the following day’s guided exploration.

Day 2: Guided Discovery of Fes

Exploring the Historic Medina

After breakfast, we arrange a guided introduction to Fes, focusing on its historic streets, traditional architecture, and craft districts. Walking through the medina, we discover neighborhood markets, workshops, and courtyards that reveal different aspects of the city. Our guide helps connect these places with their cultural setting and everyday use. The visit involves narrow lanes, uneven surfaces, and considerable walking. We adapt the pace and selected stops to your interests and mobility requirements.

Architecture and Craftsmanship

Our route may include a historic madrasa and streets associated with traditional trades, subject to opening and access arrangements. Throughout the visit, we appreciate carved wood, plaster decoration, tilework, and courtyard design. These details give the city’s buildings a character that rewards careful observation. A tannery viewpoint may be included if desired. Viewing terraces are often reached through shops, and purchases remain optional. At religious buildings with restricted entry, we appreciate the permitted exterior views and surrounding streets.

A Flexible Afternoon

After the main guided visit, the remaining time can be used for relaxation or further independent exploration. We spend our second night in Fes. Preparing a small overnight bag this evening makes the next day’s desert arrival easier.

Day 3: Fes – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

Early Departure from Fes

We leave Fes early and travel toward the Middle Atlas Mountains. This is one of the longest driving days of the tour. We keep sightseeing stops selective so that we can reach Merzouga with sufficient time for the arranged desert activities. A short stop in Ifrane may be included before continuing through mountain and woodland scenery.

Cedar Woodland and Midelt

Where access and timing permit, we stop near cedar woodland along the route. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed; if animals are present, we observe them from a respectful distance without feeding them. We continue toward Midelt, with lunch planned according to our progress. Practical breaks provide opportunities to stretch before the journey south. Water, medication, and frequently used belongings should remain accessible during the drive.

Views of the Ziz Valley

Traveling through the Errachidia region and Ziz Valley, we encounter palm groves and cultivated land beneath dry, rocky slopes. A viewpoint stop may be included where suitable. The contrast between the oasis and the surrounding terrain makes this a memorable section of the route. We continue through the Erfoud region toward Merzouga, where the dunes appear beyond the plains.

Camel Excursion in Erg Chebbi

On arrival, we prepare for the arranged camel excursion near Merzouga and confirm luggage handling. The excursion offers a slower introduction to the dunes, with time to appreciate their curved ridgelines and changing shadows. When arrival time and conditions permit, we schedule it around late-afternoon light. Sunset timing cannot be guaranteed after the long drive. Travelers who prefer not to ride a camel can discuss an alternative vehicle transfer before booking.

Dinner and Overnight at a Desert Camp

At camp, we settle into our tents and enjoy dinner. Some properties offer music in a communal gathering area, while clear skies may provide opportunities for stargazing. Visibility depends on cloud cover, moonlight, and nearby lighting. We confirm the tent category, bedding, bathroom facilities, and included meals before booking so that the overnight arrangements match your expectations.

Day 4: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Morning in the Desert

This itinerary includes a desert overnight rather than a full day exploring Merzouga. Additional local excursions require more time or changes to the program.

Journey toward Tinghir

We travel toward Tinghir and the Todra Valley, passing open terrain and settlements along the way. Lunch is planned according to our progress. As we approach the valley, palm groves and cultivated areas contrast with the surrounding dry hills.

Walking in Todra Gorge

At Todra Gorge, steep rock walls rise above the valley floor. We stop for a short walk through an accessible section, allowing time to appreciate the cliffs and take photographs. The visit provides a welcome break from driving. Our standard itinerary includes sightseeing rather than an extended hike. Longer walking routes or climbing activities need separate arrangements.

Overnight in the Dades Valley Area

We continue toward the Dades Valley region, where we spend our final overnight stay. Depending on arrival time and the accommodation’s location, we may include a nearby viewpoint or short walk before settling in. Dinner is provided according to the selected package.

Day 5: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Traveling through Southern Morocco

After breakfast, we leave the Dades region and travel through the landscapes around the Valley of Roses and Skoura. Villages, cultivated areas, and palm groves create a changing backdrop. The scenery varies with the season, and roses are not in bloom throughout the year. We continue through Ouarzazate, keeping additional stops selective because the day also includes Aït Ben Haddou and the High Atlas crossing.

Exploring Aït Ben Haddou

At Aït Ben Haddou, we stop to explore the fortified settlement and its traditional earthen architecture. Passages lead between houses, towers, and defensive walls. Higher sections offer views across the settlement and surrounding landscape. The visit involves uneven paths and steps, so comfortable shoes are useful. A shorter walking route can be discussed for travelers who prefer to avoid steeper sections. Lunch is planned along the way, depending on the timing of our visit.

Crossing the High Atlas Mountains

We continue toward Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, following the road via Tizi n’Tichka. Mountain valleys and hillside settlements provide the scenery for the final stage of our journey.
